Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at admin@beevue.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

BeeVue creates tools that help beekeepers understand what’s happening inside the hive with minimal disturbance. Our first product, the HiveScope, enables visual inspections without lifting supers, using smoke, or opening the hive.

The HiveScope is designed to complement, not replace, open inspections. Beekeepers can choose the approach that best suits their needs.

Traditional inspections require opening the hive, lifting frames, and using smoke — all of which disrupt the colony.

The HiveScope allows you to:

  • Inspect without lifting supers or frames

  • Reduce stress on the bees

  • Observe subtle details

  • Carry out checks more frequently

Yes. The BeeVue Interface is designed to work with the bees.

The brush provides a foundation the bees naturally build on with propolis, helping it stabilise and seal over time — while still allowing the scope to pass through easily for inspections.

Yes — queen cells can often be seen with the HiveScope.

Designed for year-round use, the HiveScope gives beekeepers the flexibility to choose the approach that best suits the situation — using it to gain insight with minimal disturbance, or carrying out a conventional inspection when swarm control is the priority.

With normal use and minimal of practice, the risk of comb damage is very low.
The scope’s diameter is smaller than bee space, so it can move between comb faces without contacting or damaging the wax. Like any inspection method, there is a short learning curve — developing good technique takes a little practice, just as conventional inspections do.

Yes. HiveScope is designed for use in all seasons, including winter, when opening a hive would normally be avoided.

No. Inspections are smoke-free, as the hive remains closed.

Most colonies show little to no reaction. Because frames aren’t lifted and the hive isn’t opened, inspections are typically calmer than conventional methods.
